Joshua Barr is passionate about helping people return to natural balance and experiencing more joy in their lives. He effectively combines Ayurveda, massage therapy, bodywork, yoga, and Reiki in
order to assess, treat, and empower his patients to attain success in their healing journey.
Joshua is a massage therapist and Ayurvedic practitioner by training who returned from an extensive 7-year
journey of studies throughout India and Thailand. He spent the majority of his time studying yoga, Ayurveda, Vedic chanting, meditation, ancient massage and healing techniques. Joshua suffered from a stroke at 25 years of age resulting in weakness in his left arm and leg. The doctors predicted that he would not be able to use his left arm and leg normally again. This experience propelled him to explore alternative healing methods to regain the use of his limbs. Joshua pursued acupuncture, massage, Reiki, yoga, meditation and Ayurveda and ultimately restored 95% of his strength. He was so inspired by his own results that he dedicated his life to learning these healing techniques to help others.
Joshua founded and directed the Holistic Medicine Clinic for the Sri Narayani Hospital and Research Center in Vellore, India where he worked with physicians from all specialties to treat an array of conditions. In India, he treated patients suffering from migraines, strokes, kidney failure, insomnia, fatigue, digestive problems, musculoskeletal pain, cervical spondylosis, and much more. He integrated bodywork, massage, yoga postures, breathing techniques, meditation, herbal recommendations, and dietary plans to create a holistic approach to chronic medical problems. Joshua also spent time living and studying with a Buddhist sage in the rice fields in northern Thailand where he learned the ancient Buddhist healing practices that address the physical and spiritual aspects of disease and suffering.
Joshua has also trained with Sylvia Myzokami, who is the therapist for the Olympic Women’s Volleyball team and other professional athletes. Joshua is one of only a handful of
massage therapists who has been trained in Sylvia’s unique lymphatic massage technique that was created over decades of collaboration with a nationally recognized group of orthopedic surgeons. Sylvia’s lymphatic massage technique deeply restores the normal function of the lymphatic system and helps to address a multitude of conditions from heart disease to sport’s injuries.
Joshua studied at the Acupressure Institute in Berkeley, C.A. where he received certificates in shiatsu and advanced Asian therapies. He also received Swedish and deep tissue massage certificates from the McKinnon School of Bodywork in Oakland, C.A. Joshua attended the International Thai Massage School in Chiang Mai, Thailand to receive multiple certificates in Thai massage. At the Athein Spa Academy in Pune, India Joshua received certificates in manual lymphatic drainage, hot and cold stone therapies, and a variety of spa treatments. He continued his studies in Circulatory Sports Lymphatic massage under Sylvia Mizokami. Joshua received his Reiki mastership and Karuna Reiki mastership from Dr. Zelig in Puttaparthi, India. He interned in an ancient Thai Buddhist healing method and studied Thai foot reflexology with Master Ja Bou in Sunkampaeng, Thailand. Joshua studied the Vedas and yogic philosophy with Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
